Lucidity

It's ticking
Tick-tick, tick-tick
They are closing in
And I have to leave
Or stay here forever
The carpet is still clean
The flowers are alive
The journey ends/starts
Here. And where is the peace
I was promised in that
Pack of twenty four?
My mind is turning
Into an enemy, devious.
Stop that ticking, please
I will leave, I promise.

Kevin

The half eaten blueberry cheesecake
On your happy plate.
The short lunch break in the Arts Centre.
My zest for travel
And yours for life and adventure
My books forgotten
Your newspaper lazily spread
So many faces.
In every cup of coffee I drink
With a friend
Your memory will remain
Like cinnamon dust.

Dragonfly

I followed the dragonfly
As long as he would let me.
His flight was short, clumsy
Like a powerless helicopter.
My curious fingers-
Crushed his gossamers.
My childhood wanted
To test his existence-
Blissful, cruel ignorance.
My adulthood knows
How wounded wings feel.
I wish for, but one last flight
For me and my dragonfly.

Home

I am sucked in
By the whirlpools
You call eyes.
There is no escape
I am home.

Meaning

You are the ocean- azure, deep and engulfing
And me a lone sea gull, hoping for a feed.

You are the symphony- perfected, loved and eternal
And me a hapless note, hoping to be heard.

You are the storm- passionate, fierce and unstoppable
And me a drop of rain, hoping to be felt.

You are the story- oft repeated, treasured and coveted
And me an unfinished sentence, hoping to be read.

You are the wisdom- gentle, life-saving and fertile
And me a petty rumour, hoping to be spread.

And yet, you talk to me.
