It's ticking
Tick-tick, tick-tick
They are closing in
And I have to leave
Or stay here forever
The carpet is still clean
The flowers are alive
The journey ends/starts
Here. And where is the peace
I was promised in that
Pack of twenty four?
My mind is turning
Into an enemy, devious.
Stop that ticking, please
I will leave, I promise.

Kevin
The half eaten blueberry cheesecake
On your happy plate.
The short lunch break in the Arts Centre.
My zest for travel
And yours for life and adventure
My books forgotten
Your newspaper lazily spread
So many faces.
In every cup of coffee I drink
With a friend
Your memory will remain
Like cinnamon dust.
On your happy plate.
The short lunch break in the Arts Centre.
My zest for travel
And yours for life and adventure
My books forgotten
Your newspaper lazily spread
So many faces.
In every cup of coffee I drink
With a friend
Your memory will remain
Like cinnamon dust.

Dragonfly
I followed the dragonfly
As long as he would let me.
His flight was short, clumsy
Like a powerless helicopter.
My curious fingers-
Crushed his gossamers.
My childhood wanted
To test his existence-
Blissful, cruel ignorance.
My adulthood knows
How wounded wings feel.
I wish for, but one last flight
For me and my dragonfly.
As long as he would let me.
His flight was short, clumsy
Like a powerless helicopter.
My curious fingers-
Crushed his gossamers.
My childhood wanted
To test his existence-
Blissful, cruel ignorance.
My adulthood knows
How wounded wings feel.
I wish for, but one last flight
For me and my dragonfly.

Meaning
You are the ocean- azure, deep and engulfing
And me a lone sea gull, hoping for a feed.
You are the symphony- perfected, loved and eternal
And me a hapless note, hoping to be heard.
You are the storm- passionate, fierce and unstoppable
And me a drop of rain, hoping to be felt.
You are the story- oft repeated, treasured and coveted
And me an unfinished sentence, hoping to be read.
You are the wisdom- gentle, life-saving and fertile
And me a petty rumour, hoping to be spread.
And yet, you talk to me.

Love's Resignation Letter
Can life a victim be-
Of you and me?
A song's gentle death
A waveless sea?
Mellow wine, flat beer
A reluctant nod, a lonely tear?
A half made bed and-
A box of tissues, sadly near.
Life and me, we sealed a pact-
The heart, a sanguine act.
A shipless sail, a tourless guide
Too tired, too voiceless to react.

A waveless sea?
Mellow wine, flat beer
A reluctant nod, a lonely tear?
A half made bed and-
A box of tissues, sadly near.
Life and me, we sealed a pact-
The heart, a sanguine act.
A shipless sail, a tourless guide
Too tired, too voiceless to react.

Complexity
Complexity
Lilith and Eve had a daughter
They called her gendre
She proclaimed ownership-
Of life, of love, of being,
Of intellect and strength.
She lives in me, confusing you
With her feminine wisdom,
She survives taunts and brickbats
Unapologetically sexual,
Proud to be the other.
She lives within my queerness,
Gently trying to decide for me
The identity that should prevail-
Female, male, somewhere in between?
What desires define me and set me free?
I hate/love her, she disturbs me,
By the enormity of her truth
She encompasses my existence
With her exhausting need to
Metamorphose my essence.
